Burton’s story begins shortly after he was “kicked out of the profitable company” he co-founded in 2014. Burton says he heard Buterin say, “I want to build a blockchain that can run programs,” while listening to Bitcoin-related podcasts.

After the talk, Burton approached Wood and asked if ETH needed a designer. In response, Wood invited Burton to join the core ETH community. “I was hooked,” Burton says, leaving the UK to fly to the Bay Area to meet Buterin himself.
