Ridgeline Games, Marcus Lehto’s New Studio, Will Develop Battlefield Narrative Campaign

A new studio, Ridgeline Games, led by Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto, has been formed to create a new story campaign set in the Battlefield universe. According to a press release from Electronic Arts,

Electronic Arts also confirmed that creative director Lars Gustavsson, who has been with the franchise since the first game, is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities, although he will be involved in this new narrative campaign. It is not clear whether

“Lars has dedicated a significant portion of his life to Battlefield and is proud to have helped make the franchise what it is today,” the release reads. “He is thrilled to pass the baton to his creators of the next generation of Battlefield for DICE, Ripple Effect, Industrial Toys and Ridgeline Games.”

According to the release, the company is “made up of industry veterans from around the world” who “help build the future of the franchise.”

Specifically, Ridgeline is creating a “narrative campaign set in the world of Battlefield.” It’s unclear if this will be associated with a completely new game.

“We are extremely honored to have the opportunity to work with DICE and Ripple Effect to take on the responsibility of expanding the narrative, storytelling and character development opportunities for the Battlefield series.

In addition to co-creating the Halo series of games, Lehto was also Creative Director at Bungie before leaving in 2012. He then served as president and creative director of V1 Interactive. I was in charge of a game called Disintegrationbefore coming to EA to work as a game director in 2021.

battlefield creator DICE recently said it would prioritize developing more Battlefield games. They’re focused on Battlefield 2042, and “don’t have time for anything else,” they record.

Respawn founder and head of the Battlefield franchise Vince Zampella said via a press release that he is confident the move will have positive consequences for the franchise.
