RTX 4070 Ti Beats RX 7900 XT In New OpenCL Benchmarks

Colorful has inadvertently confirmed that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a rebranded GeForce RTX 4080 12GB. A New Wave Of GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Benchmarks (via) bench leak (opens in new tab)) is coming to Geekbench 5, giving us a little taste of what the upcoming Ada Lovelace graphics cards can do in terms of OpenCL performance.
Without any changes, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti would use a full AD104 die with 7,680 CUDA cores, complemented by 12 GB of 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory across a 192-bit memory bus. It’s not going to be the fastest graphics card in this configuration, but it’s sure to make the list of the best graphics cards if tested well. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti has a rumored base clock of 2,130 MHz and a boost clock of 2,610 MHz. However, the sample from the Geekbench 5 submission is boosted to 2,730 MHz, so it could be a custom model with a lot of factory overclocking, or it may have been manually overclocked by the user.
Benchleaks has revealed six GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OpenCL listings with scores varying between 207,528 and 219,504 points. For comparison, we used the highest score (219,504 points (opens in new tab)). A test system configured with a Core i7-12700 (Alder Lake) chip and 64 GB of DDR4-3600 memory remained constant across six submissions. Note that OpenCL performance is not indicative of game performance. Watch the results with a pinch of salt.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Benchmark
graphics card | OpenCL score |
---|---|
Radeon RX 7900 XTX | 231,836 |
GeForce RTX 3090 Ti | 229,738 |
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti | 219,504 |
GeForce RTX 3090 | 204,921 |
Radeon RX 7900 XT | 201,195 |
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti | 147,200 |
Note: Graphics card scores are from the Geekbench 5 database.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti looks to be somewhere between the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and the GeForce RTX 3090 in terms of OpenCL performance. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti outperformed the GeForce RTX 3090 by 7.1%, while the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti outperformed the Ada-baed graphics card by 4.7%. Looking at the generational comparison, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti delivered up to 48.1% higher OpenCL performance than the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti.
Geekbench 5 developer Primate Labs Inc. has yet to add AMD’s latest Radeon RX 7900 XT or Radeon RX 7900 XTX to their database. This may be due to the low number of user posts. However, the best performing Radeon RX 7900 XT scored 201,195 (opens in new tab) Points for OpenCL testing. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti outperforms its RDNA 3 rival by 9.1%. However, the Ada graphics card did not match the Radeon RX 7900 XTX.So far the Radeon RX 79000 XTX’s best result is 231,836 (opens in new tab) It scores points and outperforms the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti by 5.6%.
A reputable hardware leaker claims the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will launch on January 5th. If the chipmaker keeps the original price of his GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti could drop to $899. Too much for a Ti-tier SKU? Again, Nvidia’s other Ada products are expensive, so there’s not much hope that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will break the trend.
