Ryzen 9 7950X Sets Overclocking Records With AIO Cooler
Who Said You Need Exotic Cooling To Break Overclocking Records? We set 4 new overclocking records in the 16 core processor category. The fascinating part of this feat is that the overclocker used his traditional 280mm AIO liquid cooler.
The Ryzen 9 7950X hits 5.4 GHz across all 16 cores and scores 40,498 points in Cinebench R23, surpassing the previous record holder, the Core i9-12900KS. For comparison, the Core i9-12900KS had to reach 7 GHz and rake 40,412 points under liquid nitrogen (LN2). While the difference was small, it was impressive that the Ryzen 9 7950X came out on top with 23% lower clock speeds. This shows that Zen 4 is a tough cookie to beat.
AMD’s Zen 4 flagship also took home the trophy as the fastest 16-core chip in Cinebench R20. Surprisingly, the Ryzen 9 7950X only achieved his 5.35 GHz all-core clock speed. Still, it was enough to beat the previous record-setting Ryzen 9 5950X at 6 GHz with LN2 cooling.
Score | Clock speed (GHz) | motherboard | memory | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Cinebench R23 | 40,498 | 5.4 | ASRock X670E Taichi | 32GB DDR5-4800 C40 |
Cinebench R20 | 15,771 | 5.35 | Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master | 32GB DDR6-6000 C30 |
Cinebench R15 | 6,900 | 5.5 | Asus ROG Crosshair X670E Hero | 16GB DDR5-6000 C30 |
7-zip | 228,992 | 5.45 | MSI MEG X670E Ace | 32GB DDR5-5800 C38 |
The Ryzen 9 7950X was the top performer on the old Cinebench R15 benchmark, jumping to 5.5 GHz across all cores. As a result, the chip scored 6,900 points, beating out the Ryzen 9 5950X’s 6,832 points. The latter hit the mark with a clock speed of 6 GHz on LN2.
The last record comes with 7-Zip, where the Ryzen 9 7950X hits an all-core clock speed of 5.45 GHz and hits 228,922 MIPS. Indeed, this was the most important delta of his four records. The Ryzen 9 7950X outperformed the Ryzen 9 5950X by 4.4% at 5.24 GHz (LN2).
Today’s overclocking record is just a prediction of what’s to come. AMD has teamed up with renowned extreme overclockers to push Zen 4 to new heights with LN2. Additionally, expect the Ryzen 9 7950X to disrupt the overclocking scene soon.
