samsung announced (opens in new tab)It’s the first OLED gaming monitor to be unveiled at the IFA 2022 show in Berlin on September 2nd. 3,440 x 1,440 resolution.
We don’t have the full specs yet, but Samsung has highlighted some of the monitor’s more exciting aspects, including a 175Hz maximum refresh rate, a 0.1ms response time and a thickness of just 3.9mm (0.15in). thinnest part. Also, the monitor he is VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certified and covers his 99.3% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
The 34-inch curved panel has a curvature of 1800R and combines Quantum Dot (QD) and OLED technology for ultra-vivid colors, delivering the fast image response and deep, deep blacks that OLED technology is famous for. Samsung estimates the Odyssey OLED G8’s contrast ratio at 1,000,000:1, thanks to the individual pixel lighting characteristics of the OLED display. Samsung reconstructs this statistic by calling it a “nearly infinite” contrast ratio.
The Odyssey OLED G8 is advertised as a gaming monitor first and foremost. It supports AMD FreeSync Premium, but today’s press release does not specifically mention Nvidia G-Sync support. Other Samsung Odyssey gaming monitors we looked at, such as the 49-inch Odyssey G9, also offer gaming features such as genre presets. So should this model.
Gamers may also appreciate the Odyssey OLED G8’s built-in ambient/surround lighting. Samsung says it has upgraded his CoreSync and Core Lighting+ in the Odyssey portfolio for this new monitor. Lighting can be used for a variety of effects, including syncing with on-screen action for a more immersive experience.
The Odyssey OLED G8 is classified as a gaming monitor, but it has many smart TV-style features. And thanks to the Samsung Gaming Hub, you can play games through popular streaming services without a PC. His built-in IoT hub allows users to stream videos, check in and operate smart home his devices. These standalone streaming features require a built-in Ethernet/Wi-Fi network, but Samsung doesn’t say anything specific.
The monitor has Micro HDMI (2.1), Mini DP (1.3, and USB-C ports). These mini ports make sense because the Odyssey OLED G8 is so slim. The 5W speaker monitor comes with a tilt and height adjustable stand.
According to Samsung, the Odyssey OLED G8 will be available worldwide starting in the fourth quarter of 2022, though no specific date or price has been revealed.
Q3 2022 seems to be the quarter for OLED gaming monitors to finally take off. Other of his OLED gaming monitors/TVs launched last week include a 42″ LG LX3 bendable TV, a 45″ LG UltraGear gaming monitor and a 45″ Corsair Xeneon Flex 45WQHD240 OLED bendable monitor.
