Scalped RTX 4090s are Priced as High as $4000 on eBay
The mining era and GPU shortage may be over, but scalpers are still disrupting the GPU market. The scalper is taking to the streets with his GeForce RTX 4090 from Nvidia selling the card at well over MSRP. Ebay (opens in new tab) — Some cards cost over $4000.
Scalper listings on eBay start at $2,299, with most prices in the $2,500 to $3,200 range. At the high end, I’ve seen listings as high as $4,499, but most listings sold are in the $2,500 range ( PC gamer I did the math and found that about 135 units were sold yesterday with an average selling price of $2,524).
But what’s particularly crazy is that many of the RTX 4090 listings are pre-order listings. This means that the seller does not physically have the GPU. The merchant will have to wait until they receive the card from the retailer they purchased it from (assuming everything is fine). .
But it looks like people are buying — the 135 sold yesterday make up about a third of the list. The RTX 4090 went on sale yesterday, but it sold out quickly, leaving desperate customers to either pay a reduced price increase or wait for a restock.
Scalpers buying up the RTX 4090 are no surprise. Because this has happened with every GPU launch over the past few years.
Is Nvidia deliberately keeping availability low?
The GPU market is in good shape for gamers due to the decline in cryptocurrency mining. It’s possible that Nvidia wants to keep the availability of his RTX 40 series down, at least for a while, as Nvidia and his AIB partner are sitting on top of a pile of unsold RTX 30 series cards. means that there is This is why we are seeing huge discounts on his high-end RTX 30 series GPUs at the moment.
Nvidia also bought too much TSMC 4N silicon at the height of the GPU shortage last year. This will give Nvidia even more incentive to keep availability low as the company tries to get the most out of its silicon by selling the cards at the highest possible price.
Even if Nvidia keeps supply artificially low, I doubt the company will choke the market as badly as the GPU shortages in 2020 and 2021. The 4080 16GB and RTX 4080 12GB will launch later this year.
