Secret Single-Player Titanfall Game Reportedly Canceled by EA

Electronic Arts is currently in the midst of a slew of cancellations and closures, the latest being codenamed TFL or Titanfall Legends (a secret single-player game set in the worlds of Titanfall and Apex Legends). A previously unknown project. The news was first reported by bloomberg.

Not much is known about Titanfall Legends, except that it was reportedly directed by Mohammad Alavi, who designed the Titanfall game, among other projects. Alavi said early last year he left EA.

The cancellation coincides with the closure of mobile versions of Apex Legends and Battlefield, and the closure of Industrial Toys. About 50 developers were affected by Titanfall Legends’ cancellation, according to Bloomberg. EA is reportedly looking to place them in different positions within the company.

Titanfall’s last solo act was in 2016. It sold poorly at first, but then became popular thanks to his design as an excellent single-player shooter.

“It’s rare that a sequel consistently evolves for the better in all parts of the original concept, but Titanfall 2 is an exception,” wrote a review at the time. A strong campaign of both classic action and platforming gameplay and the foundation of its best competitive multiplayer. With enhanced progression, customization, variety and a fleshed out story, Respawn thrives on it. It’s the original vision of Titanfall 2. In conclusion, it’s a lot of fun to play.”

That carried over to Apex Legends in 2019. This is a battle royale that cuts mecha but keeps the setting. Yesterday’s closure of Apex Legends Mobile came less than a year after its initial release, which came as a surprise to observers, but EA hinted that it may return.

A proper sequel seems farther away than ever when it comes to Titanfall.
