Sony Sees Strong Start to Holiday Period as PlayStation 5 Tops Hardware Charts

Sony leads the gaming hardware race this holiday season as PlayStation 5 was the best-selling console in the US in October 2022
According to the NPD Group’s latest figures, the PS5 has topped the hardware charts in both unit sales and revenue, with the Xbox Series X and S coming in second. Overall, hardware sales are down 10% for him compared to last year, but year-to-date spending on all video game products is down 7%.
On the software side, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling game of October, with Call of Duty holding the top spot for the 15th consecutive year in its release month. Gotham Knights was the second best-selling game, although it struggled.
Sports giants FIFA 23 and Madden NFL 23 come in 3rd and 4th, while NHL 23’s other newly released games come in 5th and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope comes in 6th. Bayonetta 3 is No. 9, Star Ocean: The Divine Force is No. 14, Dragon Ball: The Breakers is No. 16, and PGA Tour 2K23 is all No. 17 despite their October release.

Note that neither Nintendo nor Take-Two reported digital sales, so those aren’t included in the performances above.
