News about State of Decay 3 is as rare as the good days of the zombie apocalypse, but Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty has confirmed that the next game will be powered by Gears of War developer Unreal Engine 5. revealed that it was created by Union.
“you said [State of Decay 3 developer] Undead Labs, in partnership with The Coalition in Vancouver, is working on the Gears of War studio, using some of the technology around Unreal Engine 5 and some from the previous Gears of War for State of Decay 3. I am taking it in. Booty said to Nelson.
“The week before last we spent the whole day at the Undead Labs in Seattle and it was great. We got to get an update on State of Decay 3. State of Decay 2 was really great. User We’re expanding our base,” added Booty. “It’s a kind of stealth and it keeps growing. It’s been great to get the update. Right now I think State of Decay 2 has reached 11 million lifetime players. That’s very It’s great, and that’s all they do, and it’s really a testbed and a proof-of-concept for everything that’s going on in State of Decay 3.”
Booty also talked about how he and the team will handle learning from them about the game’s progress, and how these studios will share technology. All these take place at various summits.
“We have structures in place. We simply call them summits, where subject matter experts come together for a day or two,” explained Booty. “We’ve had animation summits, UI summits, Unreal Engine summits, physics summits, etc. I think he’s done nearly 25 in the last year. It’s the primary mechanism for teams to interact with technology.”
The Coalition is one of Microsoft’s studios at the forefront of Unreal Engine 5, as they announced in 2021 that they would be moving to UE5 for “multiple new projects.” Back in April 2022, The Coalition showed off an experiment with Unreal Engine 5.
State of Decay 3, announced at the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase, offered only a cinematic glimpse of a lone woman and a wolf corpse being eaten by zombie deer in the wilderness.
