Study discovers 40% of web3 gaming accounts are bots using on-chain data

Levan Kvirkvelia, founder of anti-bot protection software Jigger, said: report It claims that 40% of the player base of web3 games are bots. The study found evidence of 20,000 bots in over 60 web3 games.

Louis Regis, founder and CEO of Xborg, said: clito slate “Many games use bots and multiple accounts to artificially grow their player base in order to boost their ratings.”

Bots are a problem in most games, including how accounts earn value. Outside of web3, game accounts are bought and sold, including rare items, skins, or competitive ratings. Investigating the source of web2’s bot can be very difficult as the data is diverted through his VPN to hide the identity of the malicious person.

However, Kvirkvelia research takes advantage of blockchain transparency to link wallets and create probability matrices to establish the most likely bot candidates. As shown below, a screenshot from Kvirkvelia’s company Jigger visualizes the interconnected accounts.

The report also lists several web3 projects and their respective bot percentages. Bots exceeded 80% in some projects, and even DeFi projects were targeted by referral scheme abuse.

Jigger has also released a gallery of all the results on their website. A user can use a form on the page to request a web3 token to be added to analytics.

Polkastarter Gaming CEO Omar Ghanem said: crypto slate He was not surprised to read the report’s findings.

This is a given. The truth is, the data we have in this area shows that almost 2 million wallets interacted with gaming dApps.

Citing the Sybil issue in the current state of web3 games, Ghanem explains, “This research further proves that one person can set up multiple wallets and play with multiple accounts.”

On yet another point, Ghanem blamed the web3 game’s monetization mechanism for causing the bot problem.

“As long as there are games that are essentially ‘click to win’ and token farming with repetitive tasks at the heart of the gameplay loop, bots will continue to exist.

This is why Polkastarter Gaming has focused on supporting high-quality, skill-based competitive games with no barriers to entry. “

In fact, there is a movement within the web3 industry to move from play-to-earn to play-and-earn. Play & Earn mechanics often don’t require players to own a crypto wallet to get started and start having fun. Xborg and Polkastarter games are he two of the big players in the space, focused almost exclusively on gameplay.

The investigation is Zigger’s publicity, but Kuvirkvelia makes no attempt to hide it. While it may require closer scrutiny of the data to eliminate confirmation bias, the technology is definitely impressive. The ability to reveal the big picture is a powerful tool in the fight against fraud and manipulation.
