Tears of the Kingdom: How to Get Warm Clothes Early

Ozora Island is where you spend the first 1-3 hours of The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom of Tears, learning tricks in a format much like Breath of the Wild’s Great Plateau. Tears of the Kingdom’s main quest area indicates that you’ll need a way to stay warm in a cold-weather environment. Otherwise, you risk losing your mind very quickly.

How to stay warm without taking damage

Aside from adding cooked peppers and sunshrooms to your cooking recipes, or making an elixir from warm darner dragonflies, the best way to keep yourself warm is to find a body-warming armor. A piece of armor on the Great Sky Island happens to play that role. Old fashioned warm greaves.

The food is great, but the limited time thermal effect isn’t great. I need warm pants!

Once you’ve gained the ability to ascend through the cold trek to the snow-covered Gutambak Shrine on the eastern part of the island, check out our full Gutambak Shrine walkthrough and how to get there here. You can use Ascend right outside the shrine. It sits on a wooden ledge that emerges from a huge hollow tree trunk at the top of a mountain.

Use Ascend to stand under an overhang and climb a huge trunk.

If you look inside the trunk, you’ll find a small niche with a green Zonite Chest in the corner that opens to reveal an archaic warm greave. This item negates the freeze effect in the basic low temperature zone, and when combined with cooked spicy peppers and applicable foods, is completely ineffective in even the most frigid environments. If you’re going to colder temperatures, you’ll need warmer clothing (you can buy warmer clothing in Rito Village). But with Archaic Warm Greaves you can get through the early warm areas you want.
