The Cooler Master V SFX Platinum 1100 PSU Review: Testing the Limits of SFX

Today we see a pretty remarkable power supply from prolific peripheral maker Cooler Master. The company has put together his 1100-watt ATX 3.0 compliant unit that fits perfectly into his SFX form factor in a compact PC. The resulting PSU is the most power-dense unit we’ve reviewed to date, a significant engineering feat in its own right.

But Cooler Master and its OEM Sysgration are testing the real limits of the SFX form factor with their designs. Even without a single cubic inch of waste, regulating more than 1 kilowatt of energy and ramping it up to 2 kilowatts is a daunting task for such a small power supply. Cooler Master therefore had to make several trade-offs in terms of price and power quality to meet the overall power supply requirements. The result is his PSU that delivers raw power well, but is particularly well-balanced overall.
