The Norse Mythology in God of War: Ragnarok’s Latest Trailer

Sony unveiled a new trailer for God of War: Ragnarok at State of Play on Tuesday (coincidentally also known as Till Day), with lots of new images and a glimpse of how the sequel’s story will take the Norse edition. announced details about what to portray in end of the universe. Sony Santa Monica seems to be sticking somewhat closely to the source material, as things go in a very specific way in Norse mythology, and we see multiple shots in the trailer of gods, monsters, and events that tie directly into Ragnarok. There are a lot of little mythical Easter eggs in the trailer. We looked up and noted some specific details you may have missed (and added a little context along the way!)

The Norse god of war, law and honor was imprisoned by Odin for suggesting not to attack the giants of Jotunheim. Kratos is seen in the trailer freeing Tyr from Gleipnir, the unbreakable thread that bound the great wolf Fenrir.

Is it the Allfather himself? Odin, who takes the form of a wanderer and is known to travel among the people of Midgard, is one of the many Aesir gods predicted to die during the events of Ragnarok.

Baldur was the darling of the Aesir gods, so when his mother asked all creation not to harm her son, they accepted. She just forgot to ask the Mistletoe, which is what Loki ultimately kills him for (both in Norse mythology and God of War). Now she is a mother who lost her son and seeks her revenge.

Two wolves, Squall and Hati, who chase the sun and moon across the sky, are said to hunt prey at Ragnarok and plunge the skies and earth into darkness.

Loki and his love for animals

Loki has always been known to have a good relationship with animals, and that’s evident throughout God of War. The “mother of monsters” Angrbosa in God of War: Ragnarok is Loki’s romantic interest in Norse mythology. At least in northern mythology, she and Loki are the parents of Fenrir, Jormungand, and Hel, all of whom participate in Twilight of the Gods.

Raan is the goddess of the sea. She and her husband, Giant Her Aegir, had nine daughters who were the personifications of the waves. Rahn and her daughters are known to drown sailors. Although not depicted as a mermaid in Norse mythology, Sonny her Santa Monica may have twisted her two stories into her one.

The Raijin of Norse mythology is described as having red hair and a full braided beard, unlike the blonde-haired Dreamboat of the MCU. wielding Mjolnir, much more similar to what we see here.
