Valheim Devs Have No Current Plans to Release on PlayStation

Valheim developer Iron Gate Studios says it has no plans at this time to bring the survival game to platforms other than Xbox, including PlayStation.

In the episode of Xbox Expansion Pass Podcast, senior developer Jonathan Smurs said, “We’re only looking at Xbox right now, but you never know.” Valheim will enter Early Access previews on Xbox. Smårs wasn’t in the conversation to bring the game to that platform, but publisher Coffee Stain said he worked with Microsoft to do so.

Valheim hit hard when it entered Steam Early Access in February 2021, becoming one of the best-selling games of the year on the PC storefront, selling over 5 million copies in its first month of release. Sold.

It was later announced for PC Game Pass in 2022 and most recently for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass. Other console versions of Valheim aren’t currently being considered, but that doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of it coming to platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

IGN’s review of Valheim said, “Valheim is already a paragon of the survival crafting genre, highlighting a world where great art and music create endless exciting stories from a few simple ingredients.”
