Valve Opens Steam Deck Repair Centers for DIY Averse Gamers

In the past, if you broke your Steam deck, the only way to fix it was to visit your local electronics repair shop or try your luck with official iFixit parts. But now Valve has opened an official Steam Deck repair center, The company announced on Friday.

For anyone having hardware issues with their Steam deck, Support contact Then mail us your Steam deck. “Once there, our team will diagnose the device, repair it if necessary, and then ship the repaired unit back,” the blog post reads.

Repairs are free if your Steam deck is under warranty. If repairs are not covered, Valve says they will contact them and ask them to repair the deck for a fee, but users can decline the repairs and ask for the hardware to be returned. The blog post doesn’t make it clear who will cover the shipping costs in this situation, but it does appear that hardware can be returned free of charge for an in-warranty fix.

In this post, Valve uses a hypothetical scenario of a Steam deck button intermittently failing to demonstrate an under-warranty repair. In that case, the repair center will replace the button, test the unit and send it back.

However, if the warranty has expired (Valve uses the example of a dog chewing on a hardware thumbstick), it can be mailed even after the initial warranty period has passed. Valve does not publish prices for out-of-warranty repairs. It’s also unclear if Valve’s repair center will charge for replacement parts. One of the most popular DIY fixes among Steam Deck owners is replacing the fan with a model from iFixit.

Valve does not provide a complete list of eligible repair services and has not identified who operates the repair shop. It was sent to a third-party repair center, so it’s not uncommon for Valve to undertake this work.) Valve did not respond to the request. We’ll let you know more about it before it goes public, but we’ll update this post if we hear back.

Another option is iFixit replacement parts and guides, is still an option. When Valve launched the Steam Deck, they warned users not to open the device, but with a complete set of guides, nothing will stop you. But for those without the knowledge or comfort, Valve’s official service should make things a little easier.
