WB Games Chief Says Division Has ‘Critically Important’ Role to Play Amid Internal Shakeups

For Warner Bros. Discovery, which has dealt with delays and cancellations amid the ill effects of the merger, at least one division still seems to be doing well.

in a new interview with axios gaming, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment chief David Haddad, touted the division’s recent successes, including LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Multiversus. Both games managed to sell tens of millions of units while garnering solid reviews.

Haddad said the division is profitable and unlikely to be affected by the kind of layoffs and cancellations that have affected other parts of WB Discovery.

“I believe we have a very important role to play within the company, especially moving forward,” Haddad said.

All DC Movies and Series Affected by the Warner Bros. Discovery Merger

According to Haddad, WB Discovery has expressed “a strong belief in growing the gaming business and being part of its overall company strategy.”

This appears to have temporarily dispelled rumors that studios within WB Games (including NetherRealm and Rocksteady among others) were put up for sale after the WB Discovery merger. Xbox and PlayStation were rumored to be among the groups interested in such acquisitions. Previous owner AT&T reportedly tried to sell WB Games for his $4 billion in 2020.

WB Games, in an otherwise difficult year for WB Discovery, was a relatively bright spot. In early August, WB Discovery surprised Hollywood by unexpectedly canceling Batgirl, removing dozens of shows from HBO Max, and effectively killing the Arrowverse. As creators and fans alike voice their objections to the heavy-handed decision by his CEO David Zaslav, who has outspokenly expressed a desire to build WB’s own version of the MCU. , the backlash is intensifying.

Meanwhile, WB Games has several high-profile projects in the works, including Hogwarts Legacy, Wonder Woman, and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Having been featured on IGN First for a month, Gotham Knights is WB’s next game. Coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 21st.
