What’s Happening at New York’s Design Festival?

NYCxDesign, a citywide festival celebrating the beauty of homely objects such as furniture, fabrics, lighting and tabletop accessories, will be celebrating its 11th season May 18-25. Dozens of trade shows, product launches, and shopping experiences fill the city throughout the week.

The design collective Colony invited 19 members to create a prototype on the theme of plagiarism and the potential for integrity in the design industry.

Milan-based Dimorestudio celebrates its 20th anniversary with a museum-level exhibition featuring a unique capsule collection of furniture by founders Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci.

Calico features botanical patterns by Brooklyn designer and entrepreneur Jason Miller inspired by the Northern California coast.

British designer Lee Bloom opens the doors to his Penthouse showroom in Tribeca to showcase his lighting collection, Divine inspiration, accessories and archive pieces.

Design studio In Common With, founded in 2017 by Nick Ozemba and Felicia Hung, showcases new outdoor lighting and portable lamps with metallic finishes from the Flora series with Sophie Lou Jacobsen.

A master of furniture manufacturing and finishing since 1986, Jean-Paul Viollet invites visitors to his studio in Williamsburg for a magical afternoon.

The Michigan-based design firm celebrates its 100th anniversary with an exhibition and sale of rare collectibles.

Chris Wolston’s latest terracotta furniture, vessels and lighting are made from wax-molded ceramic casts of flowers from the designer’s own garden.

Lighting designer Lindsey Adelman’s latest venture, LaLAB, is an experimental platform inspired by desert lighting. Her new work will be exhibited at her Manhattan studio.

New furniture from local design firm Areaware includes a Pluma stool by Steven Bukowski, a Splat side table by Sophie Collé (pictured) and a Doko lamp by Talbot & Yoon.

Pottery furniture, vessels, lighting and jewelry by 38 creators including Harry Allen, Christopher Russell (pictured) and Graham Marks will be on display.

Contemporary habitat designer for plants and animals Constantin Boim’s collection will be on display at a Williamsburg exhibition hosted by Available Items, a gallery in the Hudson Valley.

Jon Anderson, executive director of technology at industrial design consultancy Smart Design, is leading a panel discussion on innovations to feed people on Earth and in space.

Lone Studios, a product design firm based in Los Angeles, teamed up with architect Chet Callahan to present Mondos, a furniture collection inspired by winding coastlines and rolling waves.

Andrea Anastasio’s Fregio hanging light is inspired by an early 20th century Italian company called Ceramica Gatti 1928. This will be exhibited alongside his Chapeaux, a trio of lamps on the table by Rodolfo Dordoni.

The 10th Industrial City Design Festival will include open studios for artists and artisans. The venue will also host the annual Asian Creative Festival with the theme of “Be Colorful”.

The first day of NYCxDesign’s annual flagship international contemporary furniture fair, known as ICFF, is now partnered with WantedDesign, which highlights global creative talent. The joint show will feature products from over 400 of his brands from 25 countries.

The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS annual exhibition and fundraiser emphasizes the theme of ‘design that makes a difference’. Beneficiaries include God’s Love We Deliver and Alpha Workshops, among other charities.

Furniture from Atlason Studio, Giovanni Pagnotta, design firm Heller by Massimo and Lella Vignelli debuts alongside encore pieces by William Sawaya, Mario and Claudio Bellini.

French designer Elisabeth Garoust’s new gypsum glass creations will be exhibited at luxury furniture company Ralph Pucci International, alongside designs by Nina Seirafi in crystal, stone, bronze and wood.

Presented at the Museum of Arts and Design, the organizers of the “Generation Paper” exhibition discuss how paper clothing and accessories from the 1960s influenced future fashionistas.

The exhibition presents thesis work by graduate students in industrial design at the Parsons School of Design.
