Which Temple Should You Complete First in Tears of the Kingdom?

One of the best things about The Legend of Zelda: Kingdom of Tears is that you can go almost anywhere and do whatever you want. After completing the first Sky Island quest and returning to Hyrule, you are free to run in any direction.

That said, there are a number of things you should do first with TotK before you venture too far. And when you complete your first few quests, you’ll get four new map points as part of the Local Phenomenon questline, allowing you to head to each temple across Hyrule.

You can complete the temples in any order, but the story will naturally lead you to the Temple of the Winds first. Here is the recommended order in which to attempt the Tears of the Kingdom dungeons:

Start with the Wind Temple

There are many reasons why you should start with the Temple of the Winds before the other three. If you start a local phenomenon quest and mention Rito Village, the NPC will naturally push you in that direction. This is mainly because going in this direction naturally launches some important side quests along the way.

From the observatory, you can find Impa near New Serenne Stables on Hyrule Ridge when you start on the road towards Rito Village. Talking to her will start the Impa and Geoglyph quest, which is very similar to her quest in Breath of the Wild’s Captured Memories side. After that, follow the path and you should come across Hestu cowering in fear from seemingly harmless trees. After helping him, you can trade Coloc seeds for more inventory space and he will move to his second location.

After these two encounters, you can head to Rito Village. Before heading to the Temple of the Winds and challenging the game’s first Zelda his dungeon, you must complete Turin’s quest in Rito Village.

Fire Temple Challenge 2nd

Once you’ve completed the Temple of the Winds, head back to Lookout Landing, where there’s a Goron in the middle who mentions Death Mountain and directs you to head to the Woodland Stables to find out where to go next. This should naturally lead you to Goron City and the second part of the Regional Phenomenon quest.

Before heading to the next dungeon, you must complete the Goron City Unovo quest. See the full Fire Temple walkthrough for tips on how to complete it.

Water Temple 3rd attempt

After completing the Fire Temple, return to Lookout Landing and take on additional side quests there. Talk to Puller and he will tell you that monsters are active in the South. You will naturally end up in the Zora realm.

When you arrive in Zora’s realm, you’ll want to talk to Chroma, Kira, and a third villager standing near the statues and sludge-filled water. This will start the sludge-covered statue quest, which leads to Zora’s Sidon quest, which must be completed before heading to the Water Temple.

Finally challenge the Lightning Temple

If you complete all the other temples first, you will only have one map point left for the Local Phenomenon quest. You need to head to Gerudo Town where Riju is and start Riju’s quest in Gerudo Town. After that, you will be able to head to the Lightning Temple.
