Wild Hearts Hands-On Preview: Gorgeous Monster Hunting with Building

I knew there were monster hunting games other than the typical monster hunter, but none of them caught my attention and were just as unengaging. probably ever. I’ll have to see more before I can say anything for sure, but after playing Wild Hearts for over 10 hours, can Say this That may be it. So far, Wild Hearts looks like an exciting mashup of challenging hunting, crafting, a beautiful semi-open world environment, and a snappy building mechanic that can stand on four legs.

First, some housekeeping – in general, what everyone wants to know: Wild Hearts is set to release on February 17, 2023 for PC and next-gen consoles. Yes, crossplay is supported in his 3-player co-op.it may sound like odd number But EA Originals Executive Producer Lewis Harvey says it’s easier to get two friends together than three in a digital presentation, and balancing it out with four players is a huge challenge for building. I said it didn’t work because of how it worked.. We already know that joining friends is also unlimited. You can join at any time, regardless of how much of the story you’ve completed.

It sounds like you must have advanced Wild Hearts quite a bit, but you got to the ‘end’ of story content available in this early build pretty quickly.i just I wanted Ended up completing all optional quests to play more. Wild Hearts’ hunt-craft-hunt loop isn’t very familiar to me, but the presentation and seamless storytelling were unexpected. There seems to be a main story quest active in the world, which is displayed in the upper left corner of the screen, apart from the optional quests that are available. Everything from hunting to reaching new points on the map. Along the way, you can take a ‘break’ to hunt specific monsters you’ve already encountered in the story by starting optional quests from any campfire or map.

Completing these unlocks more optional quests, grants you points to unlock new building abilities, and lets you reward those sweet sweet mats to upgrade your equipment. This is an understandable and streamlined process. This worries the longevity of Wild Hearts, but it may be music to other ears who don’t grind too much and prefer the min-max experience. can also change as the game progresses. After all, I could only fight 3 of her monsters and unlock 4 different upgrades.

There are 8 types of weapons to learn. Like a karakuri sword, it ranges from very easy to grasp to technically difficult. Like a Japanese umbrella like a parasol, it is simple but requires advanced technology. Like the bow, it requires both understanding and skill.I have mechanical bear friends that help me learn ropes, but these tutorials are pretty bare Left me to combine 2 and 2 to discover how to get the most out of bones and weapons.

Wild Hearts lets you craft new pants as well as wield massive weapons against giant animals

In general, Wild Hearts combat feels good and leads to a lot of hype moments. The build I played had a bit of jank, especially with camera and targeting. It generally tends to come with fighting big, agile creatures in the game, and there’s been some feedback that they wanted it to be a little more ‘crunchy’ and overt, but learning how to beat the system and a little bit of junk is just Part of the genre at the moment. In Wild Hearts you can craft new pants as well as wield huge weapons against giant animals. However, you can create things on the spot during battle.

As far as I can tell, this contraption mechanic sets Wild Hearts apart from other games in the genre. (No, Fortnite is not in this genre.) With Contraptions, you can instantly create a box and jump down to deal with devastating attacks, or create springs to dash instead of dodge when your stamina is low. I was able to His third “basic” contraption that he has unlocked is a torch. Standing this can cover your weapon in flames or deliver a satisfying fire attack to vulnerable plant-based beasts.

Building Karakuri in a certain way creates a completely new structure. Building six crates in a rectangular formation creates a Bulwark. Develop the skill to do this, but losing more than six karakuri at once can be a rewarding and catastrophic setback. Too much, but the yarn was not enough in the areas where we fought. You can climb on the beast and attack its weak point to replenish these materials, but it was frustrating to not be able to reach the only remaining spot. has become very difficult, especially with the Katana kit. I knocked out an embarrassing amount before finally claiming victory.

Despite the difficulty described in this example, I have only “died” once and have never failed a quest. Also, I can’t help but blame my lack of experience with Wildhearts at that point. Did it An increasingly challenging job. I spent less than half the time defeating King Tusk with my parasol-like wagasa.

Outside of combat, you’ll need to use contraptions to move. Luckily, what you create is permanent. So when you build something, it’s in your world forever. At least until a beast (or you) destroys it. There is also a type of karakuri called the “Dragon Karakuri”. This category includes structures you might want to make more permanent, like a hunter’s tent that you can rest in. Or a flying crane that can set up a giant zip line to travel through the air. Once the Dragon Karakuri is built, it can be destroyed at any time to free up the resources it was originally used for, but it’s not marked on a large map, making it a little harder to find again.

Exploration is its own reward – some of those nooks are breathtaking

I was able to explore largely There’s still work to do in every nook and cranny of Wild Heart’s first ‘hunting ground’, Hanakasumi Hills. Exploring is a reward in itself – some of those nooks are breathtaking, the type of scenery you just want to show your friends. But there are many other reasons to investigate thoroughly. The aforementioned Dragon’s Vein is particularly important (and very loosely tied to Fast His Travel), but so are the ingredients and resources to craft the stat-boosting meals you need to upgrade your weapons and armor. I have. There is also a collection of 50 Tsukumo shapes.. Find the first one to unlock a small round robot hunting companion. Plus, adorable robot friends gather around the camp to stay with you. I’ve found other secrets, but I’ll leave them as mysteries for now.

To clarify, this is just one of at least four hunting grounds, each styled for one of the four seasons. There’s also Minoto, a hub town that’s accessible out of reach for this early build, and should play an integral role in Wild Hearts.

Hunting games are nothing new to Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force. While primarily known for its Dynasty Warriors series and related spin-offs like the more recent Fire Emblem Warriors: Mitomo, the studio has also created several Toukiden games. But they said that Wild Hearts No A spiritual successor to Toukiden, it’s an entirely new game, hoping to evolve into a new series of its own.

Overall, Wild Hearts is promising, and I’m looking forward to exploring more beautiful environments inspired by feudal Japan and hunting monsters with my once-unreachable PC-only friends.
