XCOM Legend Jake Solomon Says He Probably Won’t Make Another Turn-Based Strategy Game

Former Firaxis director Jake Solomon says he wants to start his own studio, but it probably won’t be another turn-based strategy game. He worked as a director on Marvel’s Midnight Sons and his XCOM franchise.

in an episode of podcast my perfect consoleexplains Solomon.

He continues: It’s where I’ve spent my life, but I felt there was nothing more to say in that area. ”

When asked what kind of games he would make, Solomon said he would most likely make a simulation game rather than a turn-based strategy game. He explained that since he designed the individual heroes, enemies, and abilities in Marvel’s Midnight Sons, he couldn’t stray too far from his expertise, and system design was important to him.

“If someone gives me the money, I’m going to open my own studio in my hometown and make a new kind of game,” Solomon said. “I can’t stray far from my experience. I’m a creative director, but I’m actually a very weedy system designer.”

Solomon has yet to officially announce his new studio, but he left Firaxis last month after working at the studio for over 20 years.

In IGN’s review of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, “Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a highly scalable tactical RPG that makes good use of card game mechanics to inject variety and unpredictability into its great combat.”
