AMD X670E AM5 Motherboard Lands in Overclocker’s Hands
With the Ryzen 7000 series just around the corner, Gigabyte is now reportedly sending early samples of its flagship X670E motherboards to overclockers to play with.overclocking enthusiast @SkatterBencher Tweeted just hours ago, introducing the brand new Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master that he unexpectedly received in the mail.
Sending samples directly to professional overclockers is a common practice at both AMD and Intel, so you’re generally the first to get the latest and greatest gear before reviewers. . In this he has two purposes. Overclockers can provide feedback to chipmakers on areas that need improvement. CPUs can also get special attention from the public as overclockers use new chips from Intel or AMD to break world records.

Despite this, Gigabyte did not send its flagship motherboard, the Aorus Extreme. Instead, it sent the runner-up Aorus Master with a slightly weaker power delivery system.
Nevertheless, the board looks like a very capable platform for overclocking AMD’s new Ryzen 7000 chips. It is reportedly a 16 phase power design with a 105 amp power stage. This is similar to the 16 phase VRM found in the X570 Aorus Extreme. For more information, please see this article.
Overclocking AMD’s new Zen 4 powered Ryzen 7000 CPUs will be very interesting. These chips are the first AMD processors to clock well over 5 GHz with ambient cooling, with previous AMD demos reaching 5.5 GHz without overclocking.
But according to the report we covered a few days ago, that result may be conservative. The Ryzen 7000 flagship is expected to reach a peak boost frequency of 5.7 GHz. This is very close to his 5.8 GHz result we’ve seen on Intel’s competing Raptor Lake engineering samples.
As a result, if AMD’s Zen 4 architecture has enough headroom, we can expect these chips to be overclocked well beyond 5.7 GHz and possibly in the 6 GHz range. But whether this turns out to be true will have to wait for the actual overclocking results.
Thankfully, you don’t have to wait long for results. The Ryzen 7000 release date he has confirmed is September 15th, less than a month later.
