Gottlieb moved frequently. He moved to Sicily and then to Trieste, Italy for several years. Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; Santiago, Cuba; Windsor, Ontario. After Gottlieb retired, they settled in San Francisco, where Anne took an art class and worked as a medical transcriber.
She made her first psychedelic trip to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park in the early 1960s. “We stopped and looked around the Earth, the sky, and each other, and then saw something forming in the air just above head level,” she said in “PiHKAL.” I remembered. “It was a spiral opening that moved in the cool air, and I knew it was the entrance to the other side of existence.”
Her first three marriages ended with a divorce. Dr. Shulgin died in 2014. Along with her daughter Tucker, she is surviving by another daughter, Alice Garofaro. He is the two sons of Christopher McCree and Brian Perry. He has eight grandchildren. And five great-grandchildren.
After the success of “PiHKAL”, the couple wrote Volume 2 “TiHKAL: The Continuation” (1997). T stands for tryptamine and includes psilocybin and other hallucinogens.
Dr. Shulgin was interested in medicines primarily because of his ability to expand consciousness, but Mr. Shulgin appreciated them for allowing people to look inward.
Although she was not formally trained, she considers herself an amateur therapist of Jung’s tradition and uses ecstasy and other drugs as a way to help clients confront oppressed emotions, memories and self-impressions. I incorporated it into practice.
“MDMA is an insightful drug.” She said in an interview.. “That’s its main function. Self-disgusting insight. It allows you to really love yourself and understand what you are.”
