Aorus Z790 Xtreme X Motherboard Lives Up to Name With Wi-Fi 7, Screen and 4x SSDs
If you’re looking for the ultimate motherboard for the upcoming Intel CPUs, Aorus has a word for you. Due to launch in the fall alongside Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh CPU, the Aorus Z790 Xtreme X comes packed with Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, four PCIe SSD slots (one of which is PCIe 5), and a tool-free heatsink. , has a built-in screen and many more features.
We got a chance to see an early sample of the Xtreme X in Gigabyte’s Computex 2023 suite and were impressed not only with how flexible it was, but also how easy it was to remove the heatsink, cable cover and SSD slot cooler. .
The board features a 10-layer PCB, 24 power phases and a 105A power stage for overclocking. A full-color display lets you view decorative images and important system statistics such as temperature.
The single PCIe 5.0 slot comes with an excellent cooler that delivers 30% higher air pressure than other fans and reduces noise by 3db. It features a vapor chamber with heat pipes to maximize your SSD’s performance. We saw a Gigabyte rep demonstrate how easy it is to install and remove the cooler using simple finger screws on the motherboard.

There is also a huge passive heatsink covering the other 3 SSD slots (PCIe Gen 4) and 2 PCIe slots. The PCH cover is completely tool-free, even requiring you to turn a small finger screw with your bare hands.

The Z790 Xtreme X has a wire cover on top that can be pulled off by hand. This should help with cable management.
If the Xtreme X is too expensive (and we don’t know the price yet), Gigabyte will also release a cheaper yet premium Z790 Master X. The Master X also has Wi-Fi 7, but there are 20 of them. Use power phases instead of 24 amps and 120 amps instead of 105 amps.
The Master X has no screen, instead displaying the RGB Aorus logo above the ports. It also has a less flashy PCIe 5.0 cooler and the PCH cover doesn’t cover all slots.
Both motherboards support DDR5 XMP 9000 RAM. No pricing has been announced yet, but the boards are expected to arrive in the fall.
