Not all OLED panels are created equal. Asus ROG wants to highlight that the 4K OLED screens on the 42 and 48 use the latest technology available for more efficient and brighter visuals. Additionally, those interested in technology will be interested to hear that these game screens use “sub-pixel layouts that deliver extreme levels of detail and well-defined text to enhance the viewing experience.” may have
Gaming products typically have high performance and monitors, which means high refresh rates and fast response times. These G-Sync compatible OLED panel monitors boast refresh rates of up to 138 Hz when overclocked and a response time of just 0.1 ms (GtG). Unfortunately, such high-speed performance causes the driver circuits to generate heat, so in order to prolong the life of these monitors and ensure that they run smoothly when under stress for an extended period of time, Asus utilizes a custom heatsink design.
Some gaming monitors seem to sacrifice other image quality specs in order to run as fast as possible, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. In addition to punchy contrast, a typical OLED quality rated here at 1,200,000:1, these monitors feature a 98% DCI-P3 color gamut and Delta E<2 colors. These true 10-bit color panels also support HDR10.
Asus has avoided the typical glossy finish commonly found on OLED panels and opted for a “special anti-glare micro-texture coating.” As usual, this coating is said to reduce ambient reflections and distractions, but some people don’t like the grey/haze this type of finish creates.
Given that these are high-end gaming monitors, you’ll find DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1 ports with 48 Gbps bandwidth, and two HDMI 2.0 ports, along with a USB hub and tripod socket on top of the monitor. . Both the 42-inch and 48-inch designs also feature built-in speakers by Harman Kardon, featuring his 2.1 setup of twin 10-watt speakers and a 15-watt woofer in the front.
There’s no US pricing at the time of writing, but we spotted a 42-inch version selling for the equivalent of $1,299 in Taiwan, and expect the 48-inch model to be around $1,499.
