Beware of scams exploiting Ripple’s success, CTO David Schwartz warns

Ripple (XRP) CTO David Schwartz has warned of a fraudulent scheme to exploit the cryptocurrency payment firm’s recent success to spread fake airdrop phishing links.

on July 14th TweetTaking advantage of the positive news surrounding cryptocurrency payment companies, Schwartz revealed that scammers are trying to trick unsuspecting individuals into stealing. According to Schwartz, Ripple is not offering airdrops, giveaways or special offers to mark its recent partial victory over the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“Many scammers are taking advantage of the good news these days to try and steal. There are no airdrops, giveaways or special offers associated with this ruling.”

On June 13, Judge Analisa Torres ruled that a programmatic sale of XRP does not constitute an investment contract or an offering or sale of securities. Following this ruling, the value of XRP rose more than 70% to $0.82 before returning to its current $0.78 at the time of writing.

The ruling also impacted several US-based exchanges, including Coinbase, Kraken, Binance.US, Crypto.com, Gemini, and others, to quickly relist their XRP tokens.

Top Twitter Searches For Fake Ripple Airdrops

Multiple malicious actors posing as Ripple are spreading phishing links and promising airdrops to target the XRP community.

The first response received by users who searched for “Ripple XRP” on Twitter was from fake Ripple accounts tweeting malicious links, mostly from bot accounts with more than 14,000 retweets and views of approximately 100,000 times and a lot of attention.

Meanwhile, at the time of this writing, it is unclear whether these fraudulent airdrop announcements influenced or misled XRP users.
