Cardano developers announce second delay to Vasil hard fork

Input / Output (IO) Technology Manager Kevin Hammond has announced that the Vasil hard fork will be further delayed.

The Vasil hard fork brings significant speed and scaling improvements to Cardano. The original plan was scheduled for final deployment on June 29, but recent events related to the Terra Implosion delayed the problem.

and Blog post Following the announcement of the delay, IO announced a revised soft deadline for the last week of July. But during the latest episode of Cardano360Hammond, aired on July 28, revealed that Vasil will take longer than expected to complete.

Terra implosion has already delayed the problem

In a video posted on June 20, IOCEO Charles Hoskinson addressed an issue related to the initial delay. He said it is currently possible to “switch on” it and avoid it.

However, as a precautionary measure, he asked the engineer to “measure three times and cut once,” taking into account the tether disaster, especially the breakdown of the pegging process by the USDT algorithm.

The knock-on effect meant additional testing in the Plutus suite, resulting in more quality assurance testing. The dApp developer was requesting additional time to test the upgrade during the testnet phase.

All of this pushed Vasil’s release past the first June 29 deadline.

When will Cardano developers deploy Vasil?

It was expected to be released at the end of July. However, in an episode of Cardano 360 on July 28, Hammond said the core development team is still working on fixing bugs identified during testing.

He added that the team is “thoroughly tested” and focused on making the code “perfectly correct.”

“The goal is to wash away the final problem when going to the Vasil hard fork.”

Hammond defended delays, stating that this is the nature of software development, which inevitably causes unexpected problems and leads to delays.

“You need to evaluate them when these issues occur to determine what impact they may have, and they can affect the use of nodes when entering Vasil. You need to make sure that the sexual problem is completely resolved. “

Hammond replied that given a new release date could take “a few more weeks”, including the time spent coordinating with exchanges and stakepool operators before the final release was ready.

The community generally understands and the feedback is positive. For example, the founder of CryptoCapital Venture Dan Gamberdello“Talented engineers will not question this,” he added, adding that reliability and safety take precedence over meeting deadlines.
