Ethereum to shutdown 3 testnets after Merge

Once the long-awaited Ethereum merge was completed, details were revealed that only the Goerli and Sepolia testnets would continue to work.

according to Blog post The Ethereum Foundation has deprecated the Kiln, Rinkeby, and Ropsten testnets because they need to focus their resources on maintaining two testnets that continue to operate.

However, developers still have time to plan their migration before shutting it down completely.

Shutdown timeline

According to the blog post, the kiln will be the first Ethereum testnet to be shut down. The testnet was developed to provide a post-merge test environment and is shut down first when the migration to the Proof of Stake network is complete.

The next testnet to be shut down is Rinkeby. Testnet will be off in the fourth quarter of this year.

Ropsten will continue to be available from the second quarter to the third quarter of this year. However, it will be disabled one year after the successful transition of Seporiatestnet to Proof of Stake.

The development details showed that once the upgrade is complete on the blockchain, the role of maintaining and running the two testnets is under the sole authority of the client developer.

Goerli will be integrated with the PraterBeaconChain testnet, but the chain will remain open for anyone willing to run the testnet validator. A new beacon chain will be introduced to move Seporia to the Proof of Stake Network.

Vitalik Buterin raises concerns about centralization concerns

Recent Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin interview with Fortune has expressed concern about the centralization issues caused by the staking services that Lido Finance provides to its network.

Lido currently accounts for one-third of all Ethereum bet.

He said,

“I’m definitely worried. I think it’s one of the big problems we’re thinking about when thinking about ways to change the proof of stake in the long run. But it’s overkill. I think it’s important not to destroy it, because that’s what many people do. “
