First AMD Drivers for Ryzen 7000’s Super Slow iGPU
announced by AMD Adrenaline 22.9.2 Driver (opens in new tab)is the first product to support AMD’s RDNA2 graphics engine built into the Ryzen 7000 series processors. AMD’s Zen 4 iGPU is far from a gaming monster, but it should be good enough for basic use cases like video playback and web browsing.
With the introduction of the Ryzen 7950X and Ryzen 5 7600X and other Zen 4 CPUs, AMD will offer Radeon integrated graphics on all members of the Ryzen 7000 family — they’ll later offer the equivalent of Intel’s F-series SKUs Assuming no. These new GPUs feature the RDNA 2 architecture and are housed directly in the 6nm I/O die. This is a big departure from his previous generation Ryzen processors, where the integrated graphics chip was reserved exclusively for his Ryzen APUs.
Before we get our hopes up, we should know that the integrated RDNA 2 solution is completely different from the previous GPUs that are the predecessors of the Ryzen 3000G, 4000G and 5000G. The last two had up to 8 Vega-era CUs (Computing Units), while the early 2000G and 3000G had up to 11 CUs. Probably due to the size constraint of the 6nm I/O die, the RDNA 2 GPU featured on the Ryzen 5/7/9 chips only has 2 CUs to work with and 256 GPU shaders maxing out at 2.2 in all cases. GHz.
These are ridiculously low core counts for graphics processing units, even by unified graphics standards. As seen in the integrated graphics test chart above, the Ryzen 7000 GPUs are barely usable in modern video games, offering roughly half the performance of Intel’s 11th Gen Rocket Lake 32 EU GPUs.
To get playable performance, you have to play a game made five years ago when GTAV was a brand new title. Still, to barely break 30 fps, you have to drop to 720p and the lowest quality setting.
But those GPUs weren’t meant for playing games. AMD includes a new integrated GPU for casual users who only need basic display capabilities. Even gamers may find an iGPU useful for troubleshooting or powering a secondary display. We expect AMD to also feature higher performing I/O chiplets that will most likely be used in their Ryzen 7000 series laptops.
A major highlight of Adrenalin 22.9.2 is the addition of support for Ryzen 7000 series integrated graphics. The only other item in the patch notes is game-ready support grounda first-person survival adventure game currently in early access vapor.
