Ford recalls 2.9 million vehicles over a flaw in securing the gear shift in park.

Ford Motor has recalled 2.9 million vehicles due to a potential flaw that could allow it to move even though the gearshift appears to be in the park position.

The Recalled model Includes 1.7 million Ford Escape Sport Utility Vehicles from 2013 to 2019 models. Other models are the 2015-18 Edge SUV, 2013-16 Fusion sedan, 2013-18 C-Max compact van, and 2013-21 Transit Connect van.

The vehicle’s bearings may be missing or damaged, so it cannot shift properly to gear and can move even if it indicates that the shifter is parked. The Department of Road Safety said about 1 percent of the vehicles subject to the recall could be defective. Ford told NHTSA that he was aware of six reports of property damage and four reports of injury that could be associated with this issue.

Similar risks affected the jeep and several other models manufactured by Fiat Chrysler a few years ago. They were equipped with electronic shifters and sometimes thought the driver had shifted to the park while the vehicle was still in neutral or driving. Hollywood actor Anton Yelchin was killed when he got off the Grand Cherokee and his car rolled down a driveway and was fixed to a brick pillar.

Apart from this week, Ford recalled 49,000 Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs to raise the issue that the battery connector could overheat if the vehicle is charging rapidly or driving at high speeds. Fixed. The company said it would send a wireless software update to fix the problem. We also instructed the dealer to stop delivering the vehicle to the customer until the software was updated.

Ford said he expects the update to be distributed by the beginning of July. This flaw was discovered by analyzing the diagnostic data that Mach-ESUV sends to Ford. Ford said there was no fire due to this issue.
