‘Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down’ Review: A New Mission

In 2011, then-Democratic member Gabrielle Giffords hosted a public rally outside the Safeway Supermarket in Arizona. Gifford hit his head with a bullet, smashing his skull and causing havoc on the left side of his brain. She is currently suffering from aphasia, a condition that interferes with her language expression.

The documentary Gabby Giffords Won’t Back Down offers a sentimental tour of the recovery process of former MPs and her efforts to prevent gun violence in the years following the shooting. The film also provides a window to Gifford’s marriage to Senator Mark Kelly, a former NASA Space Shuttle pilot. Kelly is a pillar of Gifford’s support during rehab, and when she won a special election to represent Arizona in the Senate in 2020, he picked up the thread of her work in politics.

Gun control is an urgent issue, and Betsy West and Julie Cohen (“RBG”) directors recorded a great deal of time in a candid interview with former President Barack Obama discussing the need for gun safety legislation. did. At the same time, the film is not shy to position Gifford’s advocacy, alongside an assessment of her views on firearms, including that she and her husband are gun owners.

But in general, this is a human-interest story. After being attacked, start in Gifford’s painful home video clip at the hospital. Finally, we conclude with a winning video of her and Kelly giving a speech on stage. Even between the more analytical or crusader sections, the documentary mood never deviates from inspiration.
