Gigabyte’s Gaming OC represents one of the more traditional designs we’ve seen, and is ultimately no better or worse than its competitors. fall within the margin of error of the benchmark. So the main draws for this card will be looks, retail availability, and price. The core design looks similar to Gigabyte’s RTX 4090 Windforce, with the main difference being the RGB lighting ring around the fan.
Also, let’s deal with Giant Melting 16 Pin Elephant in the corner. No official word yet on what caused the problem, but over the past month more than 20 connectors have melted. Didn’t use an adapter cable I opted for a direct PSU connection instead — I can’t help but worry. This is true for all 4090 cards today. In other words, if you have a card, be careful and check the temperature regularly or don’t actively use it now. We really need a statement of our findings from Nvidia at this stage, and until we get it, it will be a problem for all RTX 40 series cards that use the 16-pin connector, including the upcoming RTX 4080.

On paper, the only real difference between the various RTX 4090 cards is the rated boost clocks and the resulting performance. In practice, the boost clocks are conservative, and all four 4090s we tested were found to run between 2.7 and 2.8 GHz while gaming. At best, the performance difference is about 4%, and in practice it is usually less than 2%. That said, you’ll want to focus on other factors such as aesthetics, extras that come with it, the size of the cards, and especially the price. If you have more than one of these cards in stock.
Gigabyte sets the Gaming OC’s boost clock to 2,535 MHz, an overclock of 0.6% compared to the reference card. With stock settings, we saw average GPU clocks between 2,715 and 2,757 MHz across our test suite. This is on the slightly slower end of the spectrum compared to other 4090 GPUs we’ve tested, but averages only around 20 MHz, which you wouldn’t notice in the real world.
