The New York Times on Thursday nominated Gilbert Cruz as the editor of the book, leaving him to transform newspaper book reviews “for the digital age.”
Cruz has been the Times Culture Editor since January 2018 and is responsible for art and culture coverage, including the Art & Leisure Prints section of the Sunday newspaper.
Cruz succeeded Pamela Paul, the editor of the New York Times Book Review, and became an opinion columnist in April.

Times book reviews and industry coverage are widely influential. The Times publishes the last independent newspaper review section that has been printed since 1896.
The editors said Cruz would revisit the New York Times Book Review, a weekly printing section for digital audiences.
