Google Tests GFiber Speeds of Over 20 Gbps in Kansas
Google is predicting a dramatic expansion of fiber Internet services in the coming months. Not only is GFiber coming, more places More than ever before, multi-gig speeds are becoming more widely available and accessible. how fast?In a blog post, Google Fiber CEO Dinni Jain dropped a big tip – Google is testing >20Gbps fiber Internet speeds at executives’ homes in Kansas.
Google Fiber now offers simple but attractive pricing plans for customers within its service area. You can choose the 1 Gbps service for $70 or upgrade to 2 Gbps download speeds for $100. Interestingly, both services offer 1 Gbps uploads. This is great for remote work and content creators. Plus, Google offers mesh Wi-Fi networking as standard, so you should be able to use the service throughout your home without any additional equipment. Thankfully, Google has no data caps or anything like that.
Going forward, Google hopes to significantly exceed the 2 Gbps package it introduced in 2021, while rival providers in the US already offer 2, 5, 8 and even 10 Gbps offerings. However, GFiber says it is making good progress toward its goal of 100 Gbps symmetric internet provisioning.
In the network analysis tool screenshot above, you can see that GFiber speeds are over 20 Gbps. This fast fiber his service was tested at the home of the company’s head of commercial strategy, Nick Saporito. The left dial shows a test connection achieving a throughput of 20.20 Gbps.
While you may be excited about the fiber speeds being tested, other parts of your brain fear potential pricing and may be pessimistic about availability. It states that it knows that speed alone is not enough. An attractive fiber product must also offer “price, value, simplicity and reliability.” Jain adds that even with promised download speed increases, GFiber will continue to put pressure on offering affordable pricing and symmetrical up/down speeds. You’ll have the highest speed available throughout your home.
Google promises the next big step in fiber speed is “soon.” So speed-hungry folks in the GFiber region should check here for emailed upgrade offers, the Google Fiber blog and, of course, the latest news.
