GPU Prices: Tracking Graphics Cards Sold on eBay
Track current GPU prices for all the best graphics cards and the latest additions to the GPU benchmarking tier. Scraping eBay sales data to get details about the kind of price people are paying for GPUs. We provide monthly eBay pricing updates for the latest generation Nvidia Ampere and AMD Big Navi generation GPUs as well as previous generation Turing and RDNA graphics cards.
GPU prices continue to fall compared to the previous month, but the rate of decline has slowed considerably. Average GPU prices fell 14% in June, but only 6% in July. This is probably due in part to the slow recovery in cryptocurrency prices, but with an RTX 3090 Ti or RTX 3090 averaging just $2.50 per day, it takes about It takes 500 days.
Buying a used graphics card comes with some risks. Still, if you don’t mind returning your card for repair or refund, there are some good deals.
Currently, 18 out of 21 current-generation graphics cards are selling on eBay for less than their official MSRP. The last remaining holdouts are the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3060, and RTX 3050, which were probably priced too high to begin with. Everything else ranges from a few percentage points below MSRP to in some cases 30% below MSRP. Here’s a rundown of eBay GPU sales for July 2022:
Alongside current retail prices, you can find monthly changes in GPU prices on eBay. Obviously, retailers have the advantage of being able to guarantee new graphics cards, but eBay usually means used cards. Currently, retail prices are 7% higher on average, but several GPUs (RTX 3090 Ti, RX 6750 XT, RX 6650 XT, and RX 6400) have lower retail prices.
It’s rare to see MSRP changes for graphics cards, especially from Nvidia, but the highest-priced Nvidia GPUs (3090 Ti, 3090, 3080 Ti) can no longer justify extreme pricing. At least unofficially, it looks like Nvidia has given its partners the option of significantly lowering the price of these cards. On the flip side, his three cheapest Nvidia cards (RTX 3050, RTX 3060, and RTX 3060 Ti) are the only current generation GPUs selling above his MSRP on eBay.
Overall, Nvidia’s average eBay price is 6% below MSRP for all 10 Ampere GPUs. . The average eBay price for AMD’s RDNA 2 GPUs is currently 17% below MSRP.
As we said before, these prices may sound attractive, but expect further price drops in the coming months. Then Nvidia Ada and AMD RDNA 3 GPUs enter the market All bets are off as expected. We’ll continue to see current-generation parts alongside new offerings, but that will be mostly in the mid-range and budget sectors.
Monthly sales of GPUs sold on eBay fell slightly, down 1.4%, but remained about the same. At least on eBay, Nvidia’s numbers are down 3%, while AMD’s numbers are up 5%. This suggests that more people are starting to give AMD a try.
To get an older generation card, you basically have to go through eBay or other used markets. Because these cards are rarely available at retail stores. The exception is Nvidia’s GTX 16 series parts. It also has the (very slow and expensive) GTX 1630 as a new option. Our review will be up soon, but basically a GTX 1650 (GDDR6 version, flat), as inferred from the reduced GPU core and memory interface width.
Prices for Turing and RDNA 1 GPUs again fell by an average of 8%, but the number of GPUs sold on eBay jumped 26% compared to last month. Still, the total number of previous generation GPUs for sale on eBay is only 4,700, a drop in the bucket compared to the retail GPU market.
As with last month, AMD’s RX 5700 XT, RX 5700, and RX 5600 XT had the biggest price cuts, but this time they only dropped around 10-12%. The price of the GTX 1650 Super also dropped him by 12%, which ended up dropping him below Nvidia’s official MSRP, about $50 less than the normal price of his GTX 1630 brand new. The 1650 Super is one of the few examples where buying a used card makes more sense than buying a new card.
July GPU Pricing Summary: Cataclysm
The supply and prices of used graphics cards have definitely become more attractive in recent months. If you want to set a lower maximum, it’s very easy to get your hands on the card at an even lower price via an auction. After all, that’s what “average price” means. A little cleaning, some new thermal pads, and some testing are potentially all that separates you from a high-performance GPU. Or you might have bad luck and end up dealing with a return, which is not so bad as it tends to favor eBay buyers.
Still, buying a used graphics card comes with some risks. It is believed that his GPU with over 6GB of VRAM has been mined for the past year or more. If you have the chance to pick up a used card, be sure to test it thoroughly and buy from someone who offers returns.
Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 40-series Nvidia Ada GPUs are starting to hit the rumor mill hard. Some of the “leaks” may be just speculation, but some of the more reputable Twitter users have started posting information. For example, according to a recent leak, the RTX 4070 Ti’s performance matches or exceeds his RTX 3090 Ti. Not too surprising considering the same thing happened with the RTX 3070 and RTX 2080 Ti. The 4070 Ti’s rumored specs suggest that Nvidia has overhauled its architecture, possibly with a lot more cache.
AMD’s RDNA 3 hasn’t made that many rounds, so we still think it’s going to be a few months away. The use of lets can make or break a design, so it would be very interesting to see it in action.
While it makes sense to wait for the launch of the next-gen GPUs, we have to point out how much the scalpers influenced the prices in the early RTX 30-series and RX 6000-series launches. Even before cryptocurrency mining really ruined retail availability, the scalper was pricing his cards up by more than 50% in late 2020. Let’s hope Ada and RDNA 3 don’t repeat that pattern.
