How to Turn Your Chatbot Into a Life Coach

Hello!Another edition of About Technology: AIa pop-up newsletter about artificial intelligence, how it works, and how to use it.

Last week, we talked about how you can turn AI into your personal shopper to speed up product research. Then let AI try something more ambitious: setting goals and helping you organize your life to reach them.

It turns out that chatbots like ChatGPT and Bard are actually pretty good at these tasks. Step through the steps to help your chatbot create action plans, add goals to your calendar or to-do list, and help form new habits.

First of all, let’s set a goal! A self-help book with good advice would be helpful. For example, let’s say you want to run a marathon and read the book “Slow AF Run Club: The Ultimate Guide for Anyone Who Wants to Run.”

Then select Chatbot. This example uses Open AI’s ChatGPT. Web browsing is turned on in settings, because this book is fairly new. Then try this prompt. prompt heroa database of ChatGPT prompts that have helped people:

I would like to work as a life coach. I will elaborate on my current situation and goals. It’s your job to come up with strategies that help me make better decisions and reach those goals. This may include providing advice on a variety of topics, such as creating plans to achieve success or dealing with difficult emotions. My first request is that my goal this fall is to run a marathon. Plan your three months using the principles from the book “Slow AF Run Club”.

ChatGPT explains the book’s premise that anyone can train at their own pace and become a runner, regardless of body size or fitness, and can use the book’s principles to craft a workout plan together. increase.

For example, in the first month, the chatbot might advise starting with 30-minute walks four times a week to acclimate to physical activity. Then, in the second month, she is instructed to start jogging while maintaining that frequency. In the third month, she is instructed to concentrate on jogging and increase the total session time to 45 minutes.

The next step is to take these suggestions and turn them into habits. You can manually put your workouts into your calendar, but what’s the fun in that? ChatGPT uses plugin automation tools. ZapierWith , you can connect your chatbot to your Google Calendar and ask it to automatically integrate these training recommendations into your calendar.

(Currently, only subscribers who pay $20/month for ChatGPT Plus can use the plugin. We explained how to do that in last week’s newsletter.)

Once Zapier is connected to ChatGPT, go to Zapier’s site. Open AI action menu Click Add New Action. For Action, enter Google Calendar: Quick Add Event. Follow the steps to connect your Google Calendar account,[アクションを有効にする]Click.

Once this is done, return to ChatGPT. With the Zapier plugin selected, re-enter the prompt to ask the bot to become your life coach. Once the bot is done creating workout plans, type “Add each workout to calendar”.

From there, the bot will review your workout plan and automatically add each session to your calendar according to your workout plan guidelines. When it’s time to extend your run, your calendar events change to reflect it.

Pretty neat, but much easier to set up if you’re the type of person who creates to-do lists. Tell your LifeHer coach that you plan to share your to-do list regularly and that you would like these workouts added to your to-do list according to the suggested schedule.

For example, I had a life coach get my car tires changed at Costco this week, contacted my health insurance company about a claim, wrote a copy of this week’s newsletter, bought some broccoli, and made phone calls with businesses. I told them I needed to make a reservation. These tasks he automatically spreads out over the course of the week, adding in 30-minute walks.

Whether you’re saving money to buy a house or getting ready for a promotion at work, try these steps for your life goals. A little automation can turn vague advice into a more actionable plan.

After asking my running plan, I told my life coach that I was overweight and out of shape after the pandemic. Based on book principles, this chatbot reminded me that the goal is to run a marathon, not to lose weight, but to find joy in the process of running while removing embarrassment. . This has led him to join the community of runners, both in real life and in his online communities such as Reddit and Strava. It felt like good advice.

what’s next?

Next week, we’ll talk about how students can use AI for learning (not cheating).
