Intel Extends Availability of Optane DIMMs
Intel discontinued its Optane business last year and started the end-of-life process for almost all 3D XPoint-based products. However, they may also come back as Intel is extending the availability of his Optane Persistent Memory 100 series by a few months.
The company originally announced that it would ship the last Optane persistent memory 100-series modules on September 30th, but that has now been extended to December 29th, 2023. This also means he has 3 months availability. On the other hand, it is unclear how many modules Intel plans to ship within this period.
Intel’s statement states:
“Customers are encouraged to reserve additional Optane units as safety stock at a specified Annualized Failure Rate (AFR) of 0.44%. Intel will support final order quantities for Intel Optane Persistent Memory 100 Series We will use commercially reasonable efforts to
Intel’s Optane DC Persistent Memory modules may not be the most popular product out there. Still, it addresses certain server workloads and provides enhanced memory capacity near the CPU at a lower cost than adequate traditional memory modules. These applications are very memory intensive. On the other hand, we still don’t know if the demand is that high.
Intel’s Optane DC Persistent Memory Module 100 Series is only compatible with some Intel CPUs and used only with some operating systems.
