Latest Windows 11 Build Has Hidden Gallery Feature
Future versions of Windows 11 may incorporate the new Gallery feature into the all-new File Explorer. Hidden in the latest development build of Windows 11 (Build 25300), the Gallery displays images in attractive formats and lets you browse by date or search using the built-in search box. windows hacker albacore discover gallery (opens in new tab) It is based on XAML (Extensible Application Markup Language), they say, by enabling a new WASDK (Windows App SDK)-based file explorer.
In Windows 11 Build 25300, both the WASDK File Explorer and its Gallery feature are disabled by default, but we were able to enable them with a few registry edits and enabling the optional hidden feature. rice field.
The WASDK File Explorer has exactly the same icons, colors and layout as the default File Explorer. The only way I can tell it was running is that there was a slice of pizza icon in the toolbar and when I hovered over that icon it said “Previewing Windows App SDK Version in File Explorer is displayed.
The gallery icon is displayed below the home icon in the left pane. When clicked, it displayed a series of image thumbnails in my photo library, sorted by file date. Hovering over the right side of the window displayed a list of years. Clicking on a particular year, say 2012, scrolled down to that part of the gallery.
There is also a gallery search box in the upper right corner of the window. When I typed “cats” in the box, it showed me one of her JPG files named “cats.jpg”, but it didn’t even show a preview of his photo thumbnail.
It seems that the search can only identify images by filename. This is not very useful for dumping images from mobile phones. It would be nice if this feature could somehow use image recognition to search the content of the photo.
By default the gallery only fetched images from the picture library in OneDrive, but when the gallery is open it shows up in the toolbar[場所]I was able to add a folder by clicking the button.[場所]in the following dialog box after clicking[追加]to add the document library to the gallery.
Overall, this gallery feature looks nice, but it’s not ready for prime time. Albacore warned in his Twitter thread that WASDK File Explorer was not stable and crashed several times during my testing. However, this does indicate that Microsoft is working on a new File Explorer and Gallery experience, which we may see in future production builds of Windows 11.
How to enable Windows 11 XAML Gallery
If you want to try out the Windows 11 XAML Gallery and WASDK File Explorer like I did, you’ll need to: Note that these instructions require using the Dev build of Windows 11. This may be unstable or incompatible with your hardware. I installed the build in a virtual machine on my desktop so I didn’t have to risk it in production. I encourage you to do the same.
1. Install Windows Insider build 25300 If you don’t already have one.you can Download the ISO (opens in new tab)Direct from Microsoft.
2. Change this registry value from 0 to 1. HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell\Update\Packages\MicrosoftWindows.Client.40729001_cw5n1h2txyewy\Compatible.
This registry value was locked and could not be changed until the ownership of the registry key was set to administrator. You may need to do the same.
3. download ViVeTools from github (opens in new tab)and unzip in a folder (e.g. C:\vivetool).
Four. Start Command Prompt as Administrator and go to that folder by typing cd C:\vivetools or whatever the path is.
Five. Enter the following commandand press Enter after each.
ViveTool.exe /enable /id:40729001
ViveTool.exe /enable /id:40731912
