Leak Seemingly Confirms Core Ultra Branding is Meteor Lake Only

Identifying a processor starts with more information than just the manufacturer. This week, Intel has reimagined its venerable Core branding approach to make it easier for you to identify the CPU that best fits your needs. However, while the company still has some details of its new “Core” and “Core Ultra” branding approach in mind, we’re starting to see signs that its branding scheme will match our expectations. Today we share a new confirmation. IT home This seems to confirm branding details for Intel’s new Meteor Lake architecture.

Yesterday, we published an article detailing Intel’s official announcement that they are rebranding their CPUs for the first time in over a decade. You can say goodbye to the classic “i” prefix on chip identifiers like i3, i5, i7, i9. Also, the generation identifier used to distinguish newly released processors will be deprecated.

They plan to remove the generation identifier, but the official processor product name still includes the generation identifier. For example, what was formerly known as the “Intel 14th Generation Core i9-14900K Processor” is now known as the “Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 14900K” or “Intel Core 9 Processor 14900K”.

However, Intel did not confirm if the new Meteor Lake chips are the only chips to receive the Core Ultra label or if any of the Raptor Lake Refresh processors fall into that category. However, leaked details from IT Home suggest that this is the case. All pre-Raptor Lake U processors are considered Core processors, but it looks like the Meteor Lake processors are the only CPUs that get the new Core Ultra label. Therefore, the Core Ultra branding is purportedly used to denote the latest core microarchitecture in certain Intel processor families.
