LG Releases OLED Monitor Inspired by Dragonfly Eyes

LG and partners are preparing to release gaming monitors with third-generation OLED panels later this month. This is good news, as LG has launched a new OLED panel based on its latest OLED panel. meta technologysee only the home TV market at the recent CES 2023 Expo.

The main attraction of LG META technology’s OLED panels is that they offer “60% brighter images and 30% wider viewing angles than traditional OLED displays.” This is largely the result of using a “Micro Lens Array” (MLA) inspired by the eye structure of a dragonfly. In practice, MLA maximizes the light emitted from his OLED panel, while LG applies a brightness enhancement algorithm called “META Booster”.

Thankfully, LG provided some performance stats for the new Meta Technology Monitor, which puts its value into perspective. When it announced the tech for TVs, it said the new displays would reach up to 2,100 nits of brightness. Combined with the deep blacks inherent in OLED panels, you get very punchy contrast stats.

The number of microlenses used in LG’s 3rd generation OLED (or Meta) displays is staggering to boost the panel’s maximum brightness and viewing angles. According to the company, every pixel on the Meta OLED screen has 5,117 microlenses. On the company’s 77-inch 4K OLED TV shown at CES 2023, this means the display will feature over 42 billion of his microlenses.

Two monitors, LG UltraGear 27GR95QE-B or Asus ROG Swift PG27AQDM, are known to feature his OLED panels of the latest generation with MLA. We have previously reported on these monitors before the exact display panel used as shipping hardware was established.
