Moore Threads MTT S70: A GPU with 7GB of GDDR6 Memory
Moore Threads is introduced The new mid-range graphics card, the MTT S70, is powered by a scaled-down version of the Chunxiao graphics processor and comes with 7GB of GDDR6 memory. The product offers slightly lower FP32 compute throughput than the GeForce RTX 3060 in boost mode, but the actual performance remains to be seen.
Moore Threads MTT S70 is based on Chunxiao GPU with 3584 stream processors running at 1.60 GHz (lower than 4096 SPs at 1.80 GHz for MTT S80), slightly below peak performance at 11.2 TFLOPS of FP32 computing performance. Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 (12.74 TFLOPS). The board is equipped with a large cooling system and features 3 DisplayPort 1.4a outputs and 1 HDMI 2.1 output, which are on par with the flagship MTT S80.

However, what really catches the eye of the MTT S70 is its rather strange memory configuration. The board has 7 GB of memory with a bandwidth of 392 GB/s, suggesting the memory interface has been reduced to 224 bits. Apparently, Moore Threads also decided to slash the memory footprint so much that the board comes with him 7GB of memory, which isn’t enough for many games by today’s standards.
Computing performance and memory capacity are very important to a GPU’s overall performance, but things like overall architectural efficiency and drivers also have a big impact on graphics card performance. Moore Threads’ current flagship MTT S80 has FP32 throughput that matches the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, but not only could it not match the GeForce RTX 3060 in driver-supported games, it also had poor drivers. It couldn’t even outperform Nvidia’s GeForce GT 1030.
In any case, even the top-of-the-line and fairly powerful MTT S80 probably doesn’t stand a chance in the ranks of the best graphics cards at the moment, so neither does the MTT S70. I hope Moore Threads will fix the driver soon. During the event, the company demonstrated slides detailing the performance improvements of the MTT S80 from Q4 2022 to Q2 2023.
Like other GPU designers, Chinese semiconductor industry rising star Moore Threads is using a cut-down version of its flagship GPU to cater to the lower-end market segment. The MTT S70 will receive a significant reduction, allowing GPU developers to ship these graphics cards in bulk if there is enough demand.
