Most GPUs Now Start Below MSRP: Graphics Card Prices, August 2022
Graphics card prices in early August 2022 are again lower than they were in the previous month, but the rate of decline has slowed. We’ve compiled data on current prices from both retailers and eBay. best graphics card All modern GPUs in the GPU benchmark tier. Prices on eBay have fallen an average of 6% since his July 1st, and prices for previous-generation cards have fallen an average of 8%. Perhaps more interestingly, retail prices have also fallen by an average of 7%, with several GPUs showing double-digit drops.
There is a strong correlation between graphics card prices and mining profitability, and the slow recovery in cryptocurrency prices over the past month is of minor concern. Even the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti average only about $2.50 per day, but mining profitability has improved somewhat. Bitcoin he bottomed out just under $18,000 in mid-June and is now just above $23,000. Ethereum similarly hit a low below $900 on June 18 before recovering to around $1,700. Will they maintain those levels? That’s the billion dollar question.

If you want to take a chance on eBay, nearly all GPUs are priced below the official MSRP. The only exceptions are his three: Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3060, and RTX 3050. The most expensive GPUs are priced 20-35% below MSRP and are joined by the RX 6600 XT, RX 6600 and RX 6500 XT.
The retail price isn’t too bad either, giving you the peace of mind you get with buying a brand new GPU. Only the RTX 3080 to RTX 3050 are selling above his MSRP, with the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 Ti seeing price increases of around 10% and his other three GPUs seeing price increases of 20%. By the way, the RTX 3080 12GB is actually usable. Less than They perform better than 10GB cards, typically offering 5-10% more performance.
Nvidia still has some cards that are above their MSRP but AMD’s GPUs are all way below their MSRP when going through eBay and if you want to buy a new card at a retail store only RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 It sells at an MSRP. It could be argued that some of AMD’s GPUs have a higher MSRP than they were guaranteed from the start, but the same is true for certain Nvidia cards. Still, AMD’s eBay prices are typically about 20% below MSRP right now, or 10% below his MSRP at retail.
For best value, the RX 6600 and RX 6600 XT are hard to beat when comparing FPS per dollar and eBay prices. These are around 0.28 FPS/$ and the next closest GPU is the RX 6700 XT with 0.24 FPS/$. Nvidia’s highest numbers are the RTX 3060, RTX 3060 Ti, and RTX 3070, all in the range of 0.20 to 0.21. Or, if previous generation cards are fine, the RX 5600 XT currently takes top honors at 0.30 FPS/$. Also, most of his RTX 20 series GPUs from Nvidia are worth more than the RTX 30 series.
If you want more performance than the GPU offers you’ll end up with diminishing returns, but the dynamics change a bit when you factor in the rest of the cost of a gaming PC.$750 estimate for the rest of the PC used the price. At the system level, this means that the RX 6800 XT takes the top honors, followed closely by the RX 6900 XT and the RX 6800, giving the best value from the more expensive GPUs. , RX 6950 XT, and RX 6700 XT. food for thought.
Looking at eBay prices alone, GPU prices are down 6% from last month, slowing the rate of decline. (July and June prices showed a 14% drop.) The RX 6400 is the only card on eBay to see a price increase, but it’s almost $20 off retail now, so it’s almost a count. I can not do it. eBay in July.
The average GPU price for all cards sold on eBay last month was $575, up from $614 in June. His average Nvidia GPU price on eBay was slightly higher at $623 ($658 in June), while AMD averaged $399 ($435 in June). Despite the higher price, Nvidia still beats AMD by a 3.68 to 1 ratio. Similar margins can be expected in retail, but unfortunately we do not have direct access to such data.
Previous generation Turing and RDNA1 GPUs also showed a 7% price drop compared to the previous month. The biggest losers were the GTX 1650 Super, RX 5700 XT and RX 5700, all with double-digit declines.
Also note that relative numbers (FPS/$) tend to be higher on these last generation cards if you’re running a GPU older than the previous generation. GTX 1650 Super to RTX 2080 Super all offer 0.21-0.24 FPS/$. AMD’s GPUs are also favorable compared to 0.22-0.30 FPS/$ on the RX 5000 generation. However, if you’re looking to upgrade your PC completely, a new GPU is your priority.
Total card sales for both previous and current generation GPUs were down compared to May, which shouldn’t be particularly surprising. That’s not to say there aren’t many old graphics cards waiting for sale, though.
The flood of used cards begins
As we predicted, second-hand graphics cards are hitting the second-hand market. I used eBay pricing in the table above, but bulk buyers usually get better prices.
For example, here are many 42 RX5700 GPUs (opens in new tab) It sold for $9,500 on eBay, or just $226 per card. That’s 12% lower than the average price on eBay but there’s no question as to whether these GPUs are down in his Ethereum mining it’s a far cry from this 100 RTX 3070 cards (opens in new tab) By April 2021, it looks like they will be $1,600 each.
As always, caution in advance buy used graphics card, because there are many potential concerns if the card has been mining 24/7 for the past year or more. And assume all his GPUs with 6GB or more of his VRAM are mining, no matter what the seller says. If you have the chance to get your hands on a used card, test it thoroughly as soon as possible and buy from someone who offers returns.
We’ve heard rumors about upcoming RTX 40-series Nvidia Ada GPUs that could be coming in the next month or two. According to the latest data, the RTX 4070 Ti’s performance matches or exceeds the RTX 3090 Ti. This seems reasonable since the RTX 3070 did the same to his RTX 2080 Ti. AMD’s RDNA 3 still seems a bit far away, possibly launching in the November timeframe, but it could also offer a significant performance boost.
The real issue is next-generation GPU pricing and availability. I hope Scalpergate 2020 isn’t repeated, but that’s probably wishful thinking.
