New Chrome Version Will Support Nvidia 4K Upscaling
Google is release “Early Stable Update for Desktop” announcing Nvidia’s RTX Video Super Resolution coming to Chrome browser. This new video stream upscaling feature uses the same kind of AI that made Deep Learning Supersampling (DLSS) successful in the gaming space, and all it takes to hit the PC mainstream is the new his GeForce drivers only. Before we read any further, though, we think it’s important to point out that Nvidia is only supporting this new AI video scaling tech on his GeForce RTX 30 and RTX 40 GPUs.
Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution was announced at CES 2023 last month. Simply put, it takes video at resolutions from 360p to 1440p (inclusive) and uses AI derived from deep learning and neural networks to upscale the video up to 4K. Of course, the special sauce offered by Nvidia’s AI is a more impressive upscaling quality than anything previously achievable through a combination of hardware and software.
Above, you can check out the infomercial for Nvidia’s RTX Video Super Resolution shared at CES 2023. The video shows some Apex Legends game footage captured at 1080p using H.264 at 8mbps bitrate. Nvidia shows some bright split-screens and zooms in for detailed comparisons – contrasting 1080p game footage with AI upscaled to 4K.Gamers may appreciate that the RTX Video Super-Resolution feature supports Up to 144Hz video too.
The results look great on video, and similar DLSS have progressed through several major versions and refinement steps over the years, so there’s no reason not to be impressed. Applying RTX Video Super Resolution to gaming footage might even show the technology at its best, and you might wonder how well it would work with the wide range of online video genres it might be applied to. yeah. Nature documentaries and sports videos present AI with very different upscaling challenges than something like Apex Legends.
video cards spotted The latest stable version of Google’s Chrome (110.0.5481.77) has the “NvidiaVpSuperResolution” feature turned on by default. Before Beta only feature. The new stable Chrome 110 general release is scheduled for tomorrow, February 7th. As mentioned in the intro, Nvidia has yet to release his GeForce game-ready or studio drivers with support, but with any luck it should be out tomorrow. We are fortunate that support for Microsoft Edge will be updated at the same time, giving users a choice from day one.
All the major graphics chip vendors used to boast various upscaling technologies, if not as good as they are nowadays. Cross your fingers to put the Nvidia RTX Video Super Resolution to the test and have a wide variety of streaming video content at your fingertips.
