Noctua’s Offset Mounting Bars Can Lower AM5 CPU Temps

AMD’s latest Ryzen 7000 series processors based on the Zen 4 microarchitecture have been heavily criticized for being hot. Using an expensive high-performance cooler is a radical way to ensure proper cooling, but Noctua now offers a slightly cheaper way to lower CPU temperatures by up to 3°C. That is to use a special bar to offset the CPU mounting by 7mm.

The core complex die (CCD) of AMD’s Ryzen 7000 series processors (the CPU’s hottest component) is skewed towards the south side of the socket rather than centered in the unit. According to Noctua, adjusting the position of the heat sink on the CCD and maximizing the contact pressure has been found to significantly improve thermal performance.

Results may vary due to factors such as heat flux density, CPU and radiator tolerances, and thermal paste application, but on the high-end AM5 processor Noctua, the offset implementation can significantly increase the core temperature by 1-3°C. may decline. Said. These improvements allow you to effectively cool your CPU, achieve higher boost clock frequencies, lower fan speeds and noise levels. Ryzen 7000 series processors rank among the best CPUs for gaming, and since they’re used for gaming under heavy load, lower temperatures and higher boost frequencies make a lot of sense.

“Since AMD introduced the first chiplet processors that moved the hotspot to the south side of the socket, we’ve been experimenting with offset implementations, and with AM4 we’ve seen relatively small improvements ranging from 0.5 degrees Celsius to 1 degree Celsius. I could only see it,” said Noctua CEO Roland Mossig. “The new he was able to achieve a typical improvement in the range of 1°C to 3°C with the AM5 platform and its different heat spreader design. So this is very interesting for his Ryzen 7000 users. I think the performance will be an upgrade for him.”

Noctua offers a variety of offset mounting kits for AM4 and AM5 coolers depending on the mounting pitch (83mm vs 78mm) and architecture (single tower vs dual tower). The company plans to offer four mounting kits: NM-AMB12, NM-AMB13, NM-AMB14 and NM-AMB15.

Noctua’s offset mounting bars can be purchased from Noctua’s official website or Amazon. It costs €3.90 if purchased directly and €4.90 if purchased from Amazon. This basically means that Noctua only charges for shipping. Starting in Q4, these mounting bars will be bundled with his Noctua cooler.

The NM-AMB12, NM-AMB14, and NM-AMB15 bars are compatible with the latest cooler models and are available for immediate purchase. NM-AMB13 bars for older models will be available in the next few weeks.
