Nvidia Driver Bug Increases CPU Usage
Nvidia’s latest driver, version 531.18, seems to have a bug that causes high CPU usage after finishing a game. However, the company admit (opens in new tab) Confirm that the problem exists and hope Nvidia issues a hotfix or a new driver version that fixes the nasty bug.
As it turns out, Nvidia’s Display Container Service increases CPU usage by 10%-15% after closing the game. You can check this in the Windows Task Manager.Several reddit Users believe that this bug is caused by Nvidia’s Game Session Telemetry Plugin version 531.18 (NvGSTPlugin.dll).
Please note that not all systems are affected by this bug. For example, his colleague Andreas Schilling tried to reproduce this problem but was unsuccessful.
“I tried to reproduce the issue on two systems with the latest 531.18 drivers, but I couldn’t get the NVIDIA container task to go crazy like this,” he wrote. twitter director.
Some Reddit users have suggested blocking or removing NvGSTPlugin.dll to manually fix the issue, but it is unclear what side effects this solution might cause. Therefore, this solution is highly discouraged. So the easiest solution is to use the older 528.49 WHQL driver which may not support some of the latest games, but at least it works without any major issues.
Nvidia has officially acknowledged the issue, but has not said when it plans to release a fix or a new version without this bug. On the other hand, given how nasty this bug is, it’s likely that Nvidia tends to release a hotfix sooner or later, so it’s probably best to wait a bit before rolling back to previous versions of Nvidia’s drivers. It makes sense.
