Radeon RX 7900 Golden Rabbit Edition 16GB GPU Reportedly Launches On July 28

We may soon have a new contender for the best graphics card. AMD will reportedly launch Radeon RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition), a cut-down version of Radeon RX 7900 XT, in the Chinese market. There are two rumored release dates: July 28th (via) momomo_us) and August 3rd.
In Chinese culture, 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, which is probably where the Golden Rabbit Edition got its name. This isn’t the first time AMD has released an exclusive Radeon graphics card for the Chinese market. Back in 2020, AMD brought back Polaris and launched the Radeon RX 590 GME, a refreshed Radeon RX 580 with higher clock speeds, in China.
The Radeon RX 7900 tier SKU, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE, is likely to feature the same Navi 31 silicon that AMD uses for its Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX models. As a result, the GRE variant appears to retain the 5376 shader configuration, but could have the same clock speeds as the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Rumor has it that the Radeon RX 7900 GRE will receive a significant reduction in the memory subsystem.
The Radeon RX 7900 GRE is said to have 16GB of GDDR6 memory, making it the first RDNA 3 graphics card with such a configuration. It has 4GB and 8GB less memory than the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX respectively. That’s not the only downgrade. The GRE models appear to have a reduced memory interface of 256 bits instead of the Radeon RX 7900 XT’s 320-bit bus and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX’s 384-bit bus.
Luckily, AMD didn’t skimp on their GDDR6 memory chips. They still run at 20 Gbps, but due to the narrower memory interface, the Radeon RX 7900 GRE’s memory bandwidth is limited to 640 GB/s, which is 20% lower than the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 33% lower than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. Similar to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, the card should have an 80MB Infinity Cache.
Sapphire’s Nitro+ AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE has Appeared It features two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, suggesting that the GRE variant will likely feature a 300W TDP similar to the Radeon RX 7900 XT. In that case, a 700W power supply from a trusted brand should be enough to power your new RDNA 3 graphics card.
It is unclear whether July 28th or August 3rd will be the date the embargo will be lifted, or the actual market release date. In any case, we already know that the Radeon RX 7900 GRE is his SKU exclusive to China so it shouldn’t be long before we learn more about the Radeon RX 7900 GRE including performance and price.
