Raspberry Pi Pico Tarot Card Reader Uses EM Noise to Tell Your Future
If there’s one area we haven’t seen, raspberry pi Digging in front, there is a mysterious world. Known on Reddit as the maker-developer’s Echo-Lalia, his clever mechanics have taken us into new Pico-powered mysteries. tarot card reader plan. Powered by the RP2040 board, it uses an e-Ink display to reveal random tarot cards at the push of a button.
Cards are selected based on random EM feedback. An image of the card will appear with the text, and sometimes a creepy, unexpected glitch. Glitch is intentionally programmed into the output by Echo-Lalia to add an air of what they call “digital mysticism.” Since this unit uses an e-Ink display, the image remains on the screen until the power is turned on again and another card is selected.
According to Echo-Lalia, the project was full of firsts for them as makers and developers. This was Echo-Lalia’s first microcontroller project, 3D printing project, and first foray into coding with MicroPython. Overall, the end result speaks for itself and it’s clear that this first project was worth the effort.
The tarot reader is powered by a Waveshare RP2040-Plus board with 4MB of flash instead of the 2MB found on the regular Pico. The e-Ink display is a 3.7 inch Waveshare Pico e-Paper module. These boards are housed inside a custom 3D printed shell along with a button, two switches and a bone conduction transducer for audio. This unit is powered by 3 AAA batteries.
Echo-Lalia has kindly shared details of the code used in this project. Create a seed using the data from the ADC pin. A button is used to eject the card and one switch toggles between two functional modes. Another switch is programmed to turn the unit on and off. There is a 1 in 4 chance that the drawn card will be flipped and a 1 in 20 chance that the glitch effect will appear.
Overall, this is a very clever Raspberry Pi project and the final product is very impressive. If you want to take a closer look at this project and see it in action, check out the original thread shared. reddit Make sure to follow Echo-Lalia’s creations to discover more cool creations.
