Recalbox RGB JAMMA Brings Retro Arcade Hardware to the Raspberry Pi
lycal boxthe popular open-source retro gaming OS, has announced version 9.1 of the OS and Recalbox RGB JAMMA, a means of using period-accurate arcade hardware on the Raspberry Pi via GPIO.
Recalbox RGB Jama
JAMMA (Japan Amusement Machine Marketing Association) was the de facto specification for arcade cabinets. Many cabinets used this specification, so owners could easily swap out games without changing cabinet wiring.
Recalbox RGB Jama A plug-and-play board that uses GPIO to connect to the Raspberry Pi. This board is slightly larger than the Raspberry Pi 4, so it’s not a true HAT (the HAT standard was created to define add-on sizes and basic electronics). Once connected to the Pi, the JAMMA interface sticks out to the side, allowing the user to connect his JAMMA harness (a collection of wires for video, input, and general configuration) and start the game.
Combined with Recalbox 9.1, RGB JAMMA allows the use of accurate periodic input, ensuring the correct display mode is used, giving players a ton of nostalgia.
