Both Reddit and Stack Overflow will charge AI developers for accessing content on their websites, Wired said. April 20th.
Sites may soon be charged for data access
In an interview, Stack Overflow CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar said his website will start charging large AI developers for access to its content.
Stack Overflow is known for its tech-focused community Q&A forums. It’s unclear how much the site will charge developers to visit his 50 million pages.
In a statement to Wired, Chandrasekhar said:
“The community platform that fuels [large language models] They should absolutely be compensated for their contributions so that companies like ours can reinvest in our community…”
He also hinted at plans for social networking site Reddit, which intends to charge AI developers for access to user posts. Reddit founder and CEO Steve Huffman released a statement to the New York Times to his effect. April 18th.
Certain AI datasets consist of data collected from the web. Recently, The Washington Post analyzed these datasets and uncovered the most frequent source websites.
Can blockchain help monetize data?
It’s unclear how much these companies are looking to get paid or how they plan to monetize their data, but there are various blockchain platforms out there for this purpose.
Fetch.ai is one of those platforms that aims to monetize AI data, but the data is generated by AI applications, not the data used by AI applications. Fetch.ai recently raised $40 million and launched in 2019, making it one of the oldest projects in the category.
SingularityNET, which appeared around the same time, also aims to monetize AI-related services. In mid-March he saw a significant increase with the release of GPT4.
CryptoGPT, also aimed at monetizing AI data, is a recent project with a more dubious reputation due to its ambitious claims and new age.
However, cryptocurrency-based monetization is not strictly necessary and many websites may rely on traditional monetization instead.
