Samsung’s 5K ViewFinity S9 Monitor Includes a 4K Webcam, Arrives Next Month for $1,599
Originally announced at CES 2023, Samsung today announced that the 27-inch ViewFinity S9 (S90 PC model) 5K monitor for creators will be available in the US starting in August with a MSRP of $1,599.
The 27-inch Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K monitor is the successor to the ViewFinity S8 from 2022, with a series of improvements aimed at industries like graphic design and photography. Samsung believes these seasoned pros will be captivated by the S90PC’s “versatile connectivity with true-to-life color clarity and exceptional image and text clarity.” So readers won’t be surprised to hear that the monitor’s specs are pretty impressive. Of course, the price is steep for this level of specs and performance.

One of the features that stands out in the spec table above is smart calibration using your smartphone. Samsung claims that his sRGB Delta E of this monitor arrives at less than 2 directly from the factory. However, with the Samsung SmartThings app, smart calibration works by pointing the smartphone at the screen, and its professional mode is capable enough to deliver perfect results. Control of color temperature, brightness, color space and gamma settings. Samsung says users can immediately use basic mode for commonly accessed adjustments such as white balance and gamma settings.
Samsung also details the docking feature of this monitor in the announcement. Specifically, the Thunderbolt 4 port allows users to charge their devices with up to 90W of power and reliably transfer data at speeds of up to 40Gbps.
Some advanced/unusual monitor features here include a built-in 4K webcam with auto-framing (to keep you filming) and the availability of numerous smart TV apps. Game-streaming subscribers may appreciate that two of the included apps are on Gaming Hub, making it easy to enjoy Xbox Games Pass and his Nvidia GeForce Now. Built-in speakers further emphasize the all-in-one appeal of this monitor.
At list prices in the US, the Samsung ViewFinity S9 5K monitor looks to be on par with rival Apple’s 27-inch Studio Display (2022). Unsurprisingly, the new Samsung beats Apple monitors in many key features and specs.
