The standard VAT (Value Added Tax) rate on Chinese imports is 13%, but the Chinese manufacturer’s suggested retail price does not accurately reflect that. Originally, Founders Edition graphics cards already come with a hefty price tag, but scalpers are reselling graphics cards at even more exorbitant prices.
In stores, the GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition is priced 27% above the Chinese MSRP. The GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition is the least affected, with only an 11% price increase compared to the official price. Scalpers, on the other hand, have the GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Founders Edition at 46% and 56% above MSRP respectively.
Luckily, there are plenty of affordable custom GeForce RTX 40 series graphics cards for Chinese consumers to choose from. As for the Founders Edition, it’s probably out of reach for most buyers, given that scalpers charge a hefty premium for their graphics cards. But with nasty pricing like the one we’re seeing, it doesn’t take long before the scalpers realize they won’t move the unit.
